The LORD is my strength and song, And he is become my salvation ... Exodus 15:2a, KJV
Not long ago, I was in a meeting when I received news that felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me.
I usually process bad news quickly, understanding the importance of renewing my thoughts. But this time was different, challenging. A day or two later, I realised I was still dwelling on that conversation. Worse still, the heaviness in my heart had started to affect how I treated those around me. It felt like a dragon had sunk its claws into my thoughts – slowly paralysing me.
Perhaps you’ve felt that way too. Or maybe you feel that way right now? A family crisis, a difficult situation at work, a broken relationship or financial struggles can quickly feel like a dragon breathing down our necks. If we’re not careful, these worries take hold, gripping our minds and leaving us feeling stuck.
Then I came across Exodus 15:2 and it set me free: "The LORD is my strength and song, And he is become my salvation:He is my God ... My father's God, and I will exalt him."
Worrying about something means we haven’t fully surrendered it to God. That’s why Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) reminds us: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
When we truly surrender our burdens to God, we experience his peace. That’s when he breaks the dragon’s grip on our minds, setting us free to live in victory. He is our God. He brings victory and gives us freedom.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for securing the victory. Today, I bring (name your situation) before you. Please remove the hold it has on me and fill me with your peace that surpasses all understanding. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
