The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1, NIV
In 2019, a couple in Michigan purchased an old house with plans to restore it. During renovations, they stumbled upon an astonishing discovery – hidden beneath the floor were hundreds of old shoe boxes filled with cash! The money, completely legal, dates back to the 1950s and 60s.
As they investigated further, they learnt that the previous owner, an elderly man who had recently passed away, had spent his life secretly stashing his savings under the floorboards. In total, they found over $40,000 (R722,798.40) – a small fortune in those days! The couple chose to donate a portion to charity and used the rest to renovate their home.
This remarkable story reminds me of God’s ability to provide in unexpected ways. Psalm 23:1-3 assures us: “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” Similarly, James 1:17 tells us: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights ...” And in Psalm 37:4, we are encouraged: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
We may never know if this couple had prayed for financial provision, but their story is a beautiful reminder that God sees our needs and can meet them in ways beyond our imagination.
So, let’s take joy in the Lord, trusting that he is the giver of every good and perfect gift.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for your daily blessings. Help me to trust you fully, even when I am waiting for a breakthrough. I believe that every good and perfect gift comes from you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
