Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23, NIV
Not long ago, I heard a story about a woman whose taxi ride changed her outlook on life. When she arrived at the taxi, the friendly driver handed her a business card before carefully loading her luggage into the vehicle. The card read: “My mission is to make your journey as comfortable and pleasant as possible.”
Inside, the taxi was spotless. Before setting off, the driver asked what she would like to read, offering her a selection of books. He then asked if she wanted something to drink and provided options. He even let her choose the music for the ride. To her, it felt less like a taxi ride and more like a limousine experience.
Intrigued, she asked the driver if this level of service was standard for him. His response surprised her: “It wasn’t always this way. Two years ago, I was just another frustrated taxi driver, complaining about my job and feeling stuck. I believed this was all I could do. But then someone asked me: ‘Do you want to be a sitting duck or an eagle?’ That question made me think. I decided to take what I had and do my best with it.”
His decision changed everything. Not only did his work become more fulfilling, but his income also doubled – and then doubled again. That morning, he was at the taxi stand purely by chance; he no longer needed to wait for passengers. His clients now call him directly, knowing he will get them where they need to go with excellence.
There is a valuable lesson in this story. No matter our circumstances, we all have a choice in how we approach what is in our hands. Colossians 3:23 reminds us: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” And Proverbs 22:29 says: “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.”
God has new opportunities in store for us. But sometimes, a negative mindset holds us back. Today, let’s choose to work as if we are working for him. Ask yourself: What is in my hands today? And am I a sitting duck or an eagle?
Prayer: Father God, thank you that you see everything. Help me to keep a positive attitude and make the most of what you have placed in my hands. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
